Classical singer Mar Mar Aye was welcomed by family members and friends last Friday as she came back to visit her homeland for the first time in 15 years.
"My mother said she is not feeling well because she has suffered a minor stroke. She will be able to meet her friends and her fans while she is here," said Mar Mar Aye's daughter.
"I am happy to see her again. We can listen to her songs again," said singer Htar, who came to welcome Mar Mar Aye at the airport.
Mar Mar Aye will be staying in Myanmar for about two months before going back to the United States.
She will hold her first solo concert on January 12 next year.
Before migrating to the United States in 1998, Mar Mar Aye had been a renowned classical singer in Myanmar for decades. It has been more than 10 years since her songs were aired on local TVs and radio stations.
In July, the singer released a memoir marking her 70th birthday in Myanmar, where she presented her writings in a diary form.
